“Carpe Noctem, to seize the night. Some of us take it for granted. The night symbolizes truth, a moment in time when you can be whatever you want. It symbolizes fear to some and security to others. Seize the night, keep faith, and prosper.”
Cleveland born, Houston raised rapper and songwriter Marcellus Juvann just dropped his Carpe Noctem EP. He’s gaining exponential momentum these days after appearing on VH1’s Signed, an artist reality show competition where he earned the praise from The Dream and Lenny S, so much so that his talent and artistry scored him a recording deal with Radio Killa Records and a management deal through Roc Nation. In celebration, Marcellus and his team, ELITE (Everyone Live In The End), decided to release a surprise EP called Carpe Noctem, which means “seize the night.”
Carpe Noctem is a humbling project with flashes of introspection, ranging from different topics such as self-reflection to finding himself toself-doubt to having faith in God and himself. He performed “Lost” from the EP on the season finale of Signed, drawing in the audience and having them sing along with the relatable chorus – “sometimes, sometimes you have to lose yourself just to find yourself.” The new offering is five tracks deep, featuring the likes of JaySwifa of (Fly Union) and Adj-B.
Carpe Noctem finds Marcellus staying true to himself and his vision, while sharing a story on his come up along the way. The beats he chooses and produces are clear, and crisp with great production throughout. Delivering clever lines across the EP with ease, Marcellus’ smooth flows carry this project from beginning to end.
