After quietly working in the underbelly of the Canadian hip-hop scene to hone his sound, Winnipeg artist LATENIGHTS drops off his first official single and music video.
The video for “FACTS” embodies exactly what you might expect from an artist named LATENIGHTS – darkness, temptation, greed. Set in a dimly lit hotel, LATENIGHTS is joined by two women looking for more than what will happen within the four walls. The video shows off a constant struggle many face – the hotel room lust vs. the reality of being in the streets with the boys, trying to get a dollar.
“Come in, and keep the door closed.”
LATENIGHTS, born Wongel Chutta, says his stage name was inspired by his mother.
“My mom was always working nights, so that was the only time I could record music and be loud,” he says. “Putting in work at night fuelled a lot of my creativity and pushed me into some of the situations that made me who I am today. You’ll find a lot of that in the music I put out.”
What’s next for Canada’s new rising star?
“Right now I’m focused on finishing my debut EP, Later In The Night. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait and see.”
