Curtis Roach – ‘Live from the dorm room (vol. 1)’ (EP)

Live from the dorm room(vol. 1)

Detroit rapper, Curtis Roach, is currently taking summer college courses and simultaneously working on an album. With his plate full, he still managed to squeeze out a few tracks to tide his fans over. Live from the dorm room (vol. 1) is a 3-track EP that finds Roach showing off his signature wordplay and versatility.

Roach has recommendations for each track on the EP on his soundcloud:

“listen to Jugging’ when you mobbing with the fam.
listen to bossn’ when you doing homework or just wanna chill.
and listen to hanging gardens when you smoking or chilling.”

Curtis displays that he can adapt to varied production on the EP. Be it the more excitable production of “Jugging”, the laid back vibe of “bossn'”, or the spacey atmosphere created by the Jay Squared featured “hanging gardens,” he doesn’t sacrifice flow, style or wit in any of his rhymes. Even though each track has a different producer, Roach’s ear is keen enough that he worked with producers that could inject their own style while staying true to the general direction he was trying to go. One impressive thing to note is the many cadence changes Roach goes through in the songs without skipping a beat.
