Premiere: Kenif Muse seeks attention from a special someone on “Gia’s Resistance”

New Jersey’s Kenif Muse premieres the atmospheric, pensive “Gia’s Resistance”

Kenif Muse finds himself in a situation where he wants better for someone than they do for their self, at the moment. It’s a classic narrative that never loses its flavor. He┬áplays the part with precision. “Girl, you should be here/ He shouldn’t be making you cry,” Kenif sings. Will his attempts to woo “Gia” into a new situation work? Can he persuade her to be by his side?

“‘Gia’s Resistance’ was inspired by Corinne Bailey Rae’s soulful ballad, ‘I Won’t Let You Lie To Yourself.’ I flip the theme, adding a dark ambient twist,” Kenif shares with me via email.

I’m mesmerized by the swirling synths dancing around the buzzing bass line. Kenif captures a true somber vibe that finds the the protagonist in a confused, yet hopeful state. It’s true that the sonics a dark and gloomy, but Kenif manages to reel in a certain illuminating hope through his delivery on the track. He speaks to a bigger story whose overarching theme pushes us to push for better in the midst of what we believe to be a less than desirable situation.
