You could easily say that 2016 was one of the best years for hip-hop in recent memory, but who had the BEST year? The contributors at Artistic Manifesto submitted their pick of which artist had the biggest 2016, and wrote a speech from that artist’s perspective. Now it’s up to you, the reader, to decide who should be the 2016’s President of Hip-Hop.
You know who it is. It’s your boy La Flame, aka Scotty Too Hottie, and I want your vote for President of the Rap Game. “Why should you vote for me?” Well, who else has influenced the soundscape of music as much I have these last few years? Obviously, there’s ‘Cruel Summer’, but I’ve also given you a project 4 years in a row. Who else has done that? I may not have a First Lady yet, but I bagged Rihanna, so you know what I’m capable of.
Although I grew up in the suburban middle class neighborhoods of Texas, I also lived in the hood with my granny, so I understand these different worlds. With that said, it’s clear I can bring both sides together. Unlike most emcees, I can relate to the everyday college student. And yeah, my time University of Texas at San Antonio was brief, but I know the grind and struggle of that too.
If that isn’t enough, look at all the folks I’ve worked with! Kanye, Andre 3000, Migos, Future, Young Thug and everybody’s favorite White boy, Justin Bieber. Look, if Bill Clinton messes with me, you can too. Most important of all: Young Metro trusts be. STRAIGHT UP!
If you vote for Young Travis for president of hip-hop, the future will always be LIT! Who else had a better 2016?
I’m Travis Scott, and I have approved this message.
