Brandy Takes Us To Church With “Beggin & Pleadin”

The last recording I heard from Brandy was her 2014 cover of Coldplay‘s “Magic“. Her silky smooth vocals over that haunting beat made me feel heartbreak I never felt before. I waited in anticipation for her next single, but lost hope a few months after. Imagine my surprise when I got a text tonight with the link to her latest single “Beggin & Pleadin”

Brandy released the track directly after the premiere of her new BET series ‘Zoe Ever After’ onto her personal SoundCloud. It’s a relatively short song clocking in at just under 3 minutes; something to get our palettes whet. The track gives the feel of a hazy jazz bar with the sharp electric guitar licks and drums accompanied by the down south “churchy” feel with the tambourine/percussion shaker. Brandy’s signature husky vocals and runs that will give the entire Mississippi Mass Choir a run for their money puts the song over the top. Brandy’s manipulates her voice like an instrument to bring the song to life.

Brandy is one of the few child stars we’ve seen in our lifetimes who possesses longevity in the industry. She parlayed a successful singing career into a successful acting career. With acting, although she was beloved, what we all always came back to was that voice. Artists such as Jojo, Jazmine Sullivan, Solange and Chris Brown cite her as musical influences. I’ts not clear if this is a single from her upcoming 7th studio album, but at least we do know an album is coming.
