To say that Matt McGhee‘s 1920 album was highly anticipated is an understatement. The Maryland emcee and producer has been on fire this year, consistently dropping gems via his Show series. Today is Matt’s birthday, and today is the day that the full 1920 project comes to light. Matt is both a producer and an emcee. He has an incredible ear for production, and a knack for using his flow to make the most of them. That’s exactly what we hear on 1920. Production comes from LAKIM, High Class Filth, The PZA, Don KEVO, Miles Meraki, Jay Artifact, Wheelchair Cat, Mike White, Drew Beats, ponchoroyyel, and Matt himself.
Matt cultivates a decidedly futuristic, distinct sound. At times, his music is soothing and soulful. Other tracks are more upbeat and frenetic. Every record is unique and memorable. 1920 is calculated. It’s cohesive, yet varied throughout. The Show series was decidedly braggadocios, but the album finds Matt allowing listeners to hear a more broad spectrum of emotions. It’s a great way for a rising star to cap off the year. We’re happy to be premiering 1920 today. Stream 1920 in full below, and check out the full Show playlist afterwards.
